Bee Berrie is the freshest face on the block when it comes to biscuits and after all the hype of meringues and marshmallows; she’s bringing the biccie back in a big way. What started as a cheeky Jammy Dodger adventure, stamping rude words on the front of deliciously short textured biscuits, soon became a media whirlwind with everyone trying to get their hands on something from one of London’s Best Biscuit Makers.
What followed has been a development of some of the wackiest and wicked biscuits you’ve ever seen being stocked everywhere, from the smarter West London shelves of Harrods to the super chill vibes of L’eau la Bouche on Hackney’s Broadway Market. With beautiful floral wedding cakes also flying off her shelves, it wasn’t long before publishers were snooping around and ordering little treat boxes to see for themselves just what made Bee’s biscuits so brilliant.
Now, with the book launch just weeks away, Berrie is busying herself away in her West London production kitchen creating fun designs for the launch party and already thinking of her next step. “It all started with a friend suggesting I stick something cheeky on a biscuit and see if anyone took notice” she tells me, “and after 8 months of them catching people’s eyes I wanted to be able to offer even more personalisation”.
Selling them initially through websites Etsy and NotOnTheHighStreet, Bee was soon picked up by the NOTHS branding team who wanted to give her more of a platform. “I was making things for their internal celebrations when they hit big milestones and soon they invited me to be a part of their Seller’s Stories which was a great opportunity to be made more prominent on their homepage”.
“The book is something which has brought everything I’ve ever known about biscuits together and has allowed me to develop some awesome recipes that I’ve not seen anywhere else! There’s a wicked team behind it and something for everyone in there, whether it be homemade dog biscuits for you pampered pooch or triple layered cookie ‘cakes’, however much you love biscuits and baking, you’ll definitely find something in there you’ll adore”.
So what’s next for Bee’s Bakery? “I’m already thinking about book number two and trying to gather even more fab baking ideas but for now I’m just excited for people to try recipes and let me know what they think!”
Bee’s Brilliant Biscuits is out on March 10th at all good retailers.
